Culture by Ahmed Abusharia
Ahmed Abusharia(Sudanese, born 1960s) graduated from Sudan Universityโs College of Fine and Applied Arts in 1990, launching a freelance career that would mold his artistic voice. After leaving Sudan in the mid-1990s, he worked in Kenya, then primarily in Cologne, Germany, before settling in Kampala, Uganda, in 2000. Heโs lived and worked there ever since, committing himself completely to art.
Abushariaโs work has been presented worldwide throughout East Africa, North America, and Europe, including Canada, the United States, Germany, Denmark, Monaco, and the United Kingdom. His works are in notable public and private collections around the world, including the African Museum of Art in Seoul and the World Bank in Washington, D.C.
Hunter by Henry Mzili Mujunga
Henry โMziliโ Mujunga (born 1971) is a painter, printmaker, and writer of Ugandan origin. He has been investigating innovative methods to rejuvenate African art through a movement known as indigenous expressionism.
Mzili is a founding member of the East African Art Group Index Mashariki, which aims to restore the significance of art within the local community by promoting indigenous expressionism. Mzili is the recipient and has showcased work in galleries in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Ghana, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, South Africa, and the Netherlands.
Zanzibar by Kizito Maria Kasule
Considered one of Ugandaโs most commercial and socially active artists, has continuously positioned his work at the junction of art and moral thinking. Kasule, who was born in Masaka, roughly 130 kilometers southwest of Kampala, grew up during a period when Ugandan artists began to utilize their work as a platform for commentary on society.
In exhibition halls all across the world, he has expressed the uniting force of art in a measured yet relentless voice. Through his practice, he continues to demonstrate how visual language can operate as a catalyst for discourse and connection beyond boundaries.
